TWICE Nayeon Finally Gets Her First Music Show Win, K-pop Fans Say “Will Always Be POPular”

Nayeon became the first TWICE member to make her solo debut with debut single “POP” and became an instant hit. With girl group TWICE known for releasing at least one viral single every year like “TT”, “Fancy” or “The Feels”, there was no doubt that “POP” would also become a social media craze, from its earworm chorus to his fun dance move. Nayeon also made history with her album “Im Nayeon” by becoming the first K-pop soloist to break into the Billboard top 10 by debuting at #7. But while the TWICE star topped the national and international charts, fans couldn’t seem to win him a music show.

K-pop became popular in South Korea through music shows rather than radio plays. With tons of K-pop acts releasing new music every week and promoting music shows, a win makes one lucky K-pop act stand out. And so, great importance is given to a music show being won by K-pop labels. But TWICE fans were frustrated as Nayeon seemed to lose all nominations until July 10. Some were suspicious even if music shows were rigged to let lesser artists like Kep1er and fromis_9 win. However, Nayeon finally got her first music show win on July 10.
