Actor Gary Busey stars in Audio Up’s latest scripted musical series. | Daily News Podcast

Actor Gary Busey leads the cast of Audio Up’s latest music podcast. He stars in the brand new scripted country music podcast titled The Ballad of Uncle Drunk. The eight-episode series gives a comedic new take on the music industry in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Audio Up will also release a soundtrack alongside the podcast later this fall.

The Ballad of Uncle Drank features the adventures of a long-forgotten fictional country superstar, Uncle Drank – a lovable, drunken, free-spirited beach musician who traveled the world and then mysteriously disappeared in 1992.

“I think Uncle Drank is one of my personality subparts, so there won’t be any need for acting,” Busey said.

The release of the podcast featuring Busey comes amid the 78-year-old actor’s arrest this week. New Jersey police have charged Busey with multiple counts of sexual misconduct stemming from his appearance at the Monster Mania horror movie convention in New Jersey earlier this month. CNN reported that Busey allegedly denied any inappropriate behavior, but also asked the police to apologize to the victims on his behalf.

Other cast members of the series include Luke Wilson, Brian Kelley, Chelcie Lynn, Billy Zane, and Scarlett Burke.

The podcast was created by Audio Up founder and CEO Jared Gutstadt, who also appears on the series. The series was written and directed by Audio Up’s vice president of production, Zach Selwyn, alongside Gutstadt. “Uncle Drank was widely known as the inventor of beach-country and too-rock,” says Gutstadt.

The podcast will feature original music written and produced by artists Uncle Kracker, Snow and Gutstadt. Audio Up will also release a soundtrack with the first single “The largest dock on the lake” featuring Uncle Kracker having already been published.

“Apart from being genuinely hilarious, it’s a great way to show innovation within our music industry. Jared has a great track record writing for artists in many different genres,” said the Audio Up’s president of music, PJ Bloom.” Now we’re inventing artists of the future who live inside the podcast, but who could eventually spin, become brand ambassadors and create lucrative intellectual property through film, television and streaming.”

Continuation of the podcasts first episode, the original tracks will continue to be released along with the full podcast soundtrack, including bonus songs available after the final episode.

The Ballad of Uncle Drank is set to premiere on August 30.
