We logged out of Twitter: No big loss, it didn’t matter to us anyway

You may have noticed, although there is a good chance that this is not the case, that Augusta Free Press is no longer on Twitter.

Confirmation here: we have moved.

Based on our internal measures, it will not be a loss for us to be out of hell.

Twitter accounts for less than 1% of our traffic, according to our Google Analytics.

We were there mainly because, like many others in the media industry, you feel the need to be there.

I mean, it’s Twitter, right?

We tried to get by under the new management of paper billionaire Elon Musk, but we drew the line at the idea of Musk reinstating former President Donald Trump’s account, which had been permanently banned from the platform. form under the previous leadership of Twitter in 2021. for using Twitter to incite an attempted political coup.

Musk announced on Twitter over the weekend that he was reinstating Trump, although strangely it doesn’t even look like Trump wants to be back, after he used his Twitter ban to start the corruption known as Truth Social, a Twitter scam that has a handful of mostly far-right followers and has been on its last legs for two months now.

It doesn’t seem logical that Musk would want his $44 billion investment in Twitter to turn the medium into a replacement for a failing right-wing website, but it’s his money.

We’re not trying to make a statement by disconnecting. I don’t want him making a dime with our content, and if he’s not there, he can’t.
