Kesha releases a documentary about the recording of her third LP, Rainbow – his first record after his ongoing legal battles with Dr. Luke. In the trailer for Rainbow – The movieKesha says making the album has been a life-saving journey.
“Sometimes things just seem too much to handle,” she says in the clip. “You may be able to collect it and put it forward in front of others. But inside you’re trapped, you’re slowly suffocating.
The doc, available August 10 exclusively through Apple Music, mixes colorful, psychedelic vignettes with never-before-seen footage from the Rainbow recording sessions, his performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards, and live performances at rock shows and dive bars around the United States. Kesha co-directed the film with Kevin Hayden and his brother Lagan Sebert.
“Manufacturing Rainbow the album was such a therapeutic process and the ability to turn it into a three-dimensional work of art helped me find even deeper healing and catharsis,” Kesha said in a statement.
“I hope this film inspires others to never give up even if you feel hurt or lost, because after the storm comes a rainbow. Depression, anxiety and mental illness are things we we all need to talk more, and there’s no shame in asking for help. Making the decision to work on yourself is the bravest thing you can do. I hope this film helps bring light and love to everyone.
