Una Healy and Loah to host new music show on Saturday

RTÉ has ​​announced a new musical show to brighten up Saturday nights hosted by Una Healy and Loah and featuring the choice of Irish music.

Kick-off on Saturday July 24 on RTÉ One, The heart of Saturday night invites viewers to six weeks of glorious musical evenings in the company of some of the country’s best performers.

Produced by South Wind Blows, the shows promise rousing musical sessions, featuring many artists who have not performed on stage since the start of the pandemic.

Irish Women in Harmony, Mick Flannery, The Saw Doctors, Soda Blonde, Niamh Regan, Rhiannon Giddens and many more will entertain viewers from the beautiful surroundings of The Round Room in Dublin’s Mansion House.

This new summer musical series caters to all musical tastes and will celebrate the old, the new, the loved and the familiar.

There will be a wide range of genres represented from pop, folk, rock, classical and traditional.

Each episode of the six-week Saturday night show series will feature a segment that honors and celebrates artists who are no longer with us, including Phil Lynott, Dolores O’Riordan, Shay Healy, Ronnie Drew and John Prine.

“I was so excited to be invited to co-host The Heart of Saturday Night and to do so alongside the incredibly talented Loah was a joy,” Una Healy said.

“We had a great time filming and it was an experience I will never forget. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

For Loah, The heart of Saturday night “is a musical dream come true. Co-presenting with Una was a great pleasure and it was wonderful to hear and chat with all the amazing musicians throughout the series.

“I am honored to be a part of the show and can’t wait to share our joy with the audience!”

The series will also include notable contributions from Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan with his family, and sisters Louise and Michelle Mulcahy, as well as Dónal Lunny remembering famous flute player Liam O’Flynn.

The show’s presenters will each be a duet with a musical guest – Una Healy will sing with Derek Ryan and Loah will sing with Gavin James for special and unique performances.
