Local streaming service Tving is collaborating with Naver Webtoon to create a music show.
The show is tentatively titled “Webtoon OST Audition Project”, which TVing and Naver Webtoon will co-plan and co-produce.
Using Naver Webtoon Intellectual Property (IP), characters from various stories will audition using webtoon soundtracks. The show will use motion capture and extended reality (XR) to animate the characters in two dimensions.
The Mnet cable channel producers who were behind hit audition shows such as “Super Star K” (2009-16) “Show Me the Money” (2012-) and “Street Woman Fighter” ( 2021) and digital entertainment company Sandbox will co-produce the show.
“For the first time in the world, we are attempting to infuse the music audition format with webtoons, which will provide a distinctive experience for webtoon fans as well as Tving subscribers,” a Tving spokesperson said in a statement.
The show will air exclusively on TVing in the second half of this year as an original TVing program.
