The summer musical series continues at the Masonic Amphitheater with RAISED ON BLUEGRASS on Saturday, September 10 from 5:00 p.m. Bent Mountain Trio and Whiskey Rebellion will bring their music to the amphitheater stage and Bluegrass reigns supreme.
Bent Mountain Trio will start at 5:00 p.m. Members of the Charlottesville-based Bent Mountain Trio include: Bubba Beasley – guitar, vocals; Peter LaBau – Banjo, Dobro, Vocals; and Mark Goldstein – Bass, Vocals. The Bent Mountain Trio provides the perfect musical backdrop for the magnificent Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountains. Serving up a mix of old bluegrass and roots music they like to call “cocktailgrass”, these longtime musician friends combine expert selection and rich vocal harmonies to capture the spirit of music and celebration that draws so many people in this beautiful part of the country.
The Bent Mountain Trio specializes in providing acoustic music for stages and ceremonies that is elegant and refined without being stuffy. They then set the tone for toe-tapping Bluegrass and other acoustic favorites for audience members as the sun goes down. Taken together, it’s the perfect musical accompaniment to a rustic Virginia evening.
Whiskey Rebellion will take the stage at 7:00 p.m. Deft picking and expert three-part harmonies are just part of what you can expect from the Whiskey Rebellion, who play their brand of high-energy acoustic music across the Southeast and as far to the West. than the Pacific Ocean for eight years.
The group has recorded two acclaimed original albums in the region, shared the stage with the Sam Bush Band and Carolina Chocolate Drops, and had its 2011 Pacific Northwest tour filmed by filmmaker Tony Morin for a concert film. and a documentary. Drawing on their diverse musical backgrounds, The Whiskey Rebellion blend the spontaneity of bluegrass, the collectiveness of jazz and the urgency of rock and roll to create their own unique take on everything from traditional bluegrass to party favourites. The group covers a wide range of artists from the Beatles to the Talking Heads to Guns ‘n’ Roses, but their approach is still rooted in their acoustic roots and uniquely lends itself to being both listenable and danceable.
