NECLive9: Growth of Nigerian music, film and fashion set to benefit local economy

Ayeni Adekunle, the organizer of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive), the largest and oldest gathering of entertainment and creative industry professionals in West Africa, said the current growth of the he entertainment industry in Nigeria must trickle down to the local economy.

Speaking at the ninth edition of the conference, NECLive9, at the Landmark Event Center in Lagos on Friday, April 29, 2022, Ayeni said he felt a sense of satisfaction with the growth experienced so far by creatives and Nigerian artists.

“What we saw in Maddison Square where Burna Boy performed is what NECLive is all about. We are nominated for Grammys, we have musicians and actors who are now big deals not only in Nigeria but all over the world,” he said. “The essence of NECLive is to share ideas and collaborate as we build the industry of our dreams.”

The NECLive organizer said that ten years ago this development would have been better imagined, but now it has become more than a reality.

He said, “A decade or two ago our artists wouldn’t be seen headlining a show overseas or being the main face of Billboard magazine.

“The dream when we launched NECLive in 2013 is now coming true. What we are seeing today in fashion, music, art, film industry is still in its infancy. Some of those who will succeed are here today. The growth of our music, our cinema and our fashion must benefit the local economy.
