Teddy Pendergrass – If you don’t know me, the R&B star’s story, will be released on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and VOD on August 23 by MVD Entertainment Group.

On the brink of world stardom when tragedy struck, Pendergrass’ story is a tale of surprising twists and an intimate portrait of one of the greatest singers of his generation. It also tells how Teddy fought for the rights of African American artists in a 1970s music industry harmful to black artists and reveals how, at just 31, Pendergrass overcame a terrible tragedy to return to the stage against all odds. .

The film’s world premiere at the Philadelphia Film Festival (his hometown) resulted in a People’s Choice Award and a Pinkenson Award nomination. It also aired on Showtime in the United States.

Director and BAFTA award winner Olivia Lichtenstein conceived, researched and directed the film, which reveals Teddy’s meteoric rise from his difficult childhood in Philadelphia to become the lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
