IN-PERSON ONLY EVENT
The New Orleans-based company ÌFE is a project by percussionist, producer and Santería priest Otura Mun, which fuses Afro-Latin percussion and Yoruba prayer with electronic music. Mun’s Orisha religious practice is the lens through which the music is conceptualized, alongside his lifelong study of African diaspora drumming – from collegiate drumlines in the South to the underground hip-hop and indie scene of Puerto Rico, where he produced tracks for singers and MCs. His acclaimed album 0000+0000 (2021) began in San Juan and was made entirely in New Orleans. The numerals in the title form a prophetic sign of Ifá religious practice, heralding the birth of night and a fearless embrace of death.
“Mun…batá rhythms meet self-tuned vocals, and musical folklore meets spiritual worship, creating an otherworldly atmosphere where every drum hit, synth cue and call builds and reaches spectacular heights.” — The Washington Post
