LEOMINSTER – The sounds of live music can be heard in the heart of the city most Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in August and September as part of the Downtown Sounds outdoor music series, giving local bands and artists solos the opportunity to provide entertainment and showcase their talents.
Musicians play in front of the Woodblock Building from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on scheduled evenings in the newly renovated stretch of downtown that includes Monument Park.
Live entertainment is courtesy of City Hall, which is its latest downtown initiative. Sean Daley, Justin Ray, Scott Alan Savoy and Alex the Musician performed in August, and upcoming shows include music by Marquis and Ann Marie this Thursday and music with Nina on Friday.
Organizer Melissa Tasca, the city’s small business development coordinator, said the music series has been going very well so far.
“It’s less of a show and more of background music,” she said. “It’s about the downtown vibe and sound to add to our already vibrant downtown.”
Another city-sponsored event is Kids’ Day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, which Tasca says will feature “kid-centric businesses and fun things for kids to do,” such as a playhouse. bounce and music, and several local businesses and vendors, including Chaos Creation, Shrewsbury’s Kona Ice, Wicked Good Henna, and more. Downtown Sounds performances are weather dependent and will not take place on evenings when other city-sponsored events, such as Children’s Day, are held downtown.
