Launch of new Saturday night music show hosted by Una Healy and Loah

A new Saturday night show hosted by Una Healy and Loah and featuring the best in Irish music kicks off tonight on RTÉ One.

he Heart of Saturday Night will bring viewers six musical evenings featuring some of the nation’s top performers over the next few weeks.

Each episode of the six-week Saturday night show series will feature a segment that honors and celebrates artists who are no longer with us, including Phil Lynott, Dolores O’Riordan, Shay Healy, Ronnie Drew and John Prine.

“I was so excited to be asked to co-host The Heart of Saturday Night and to do so alongside the incredibly talented Loah was a joy,” Una said recently.

“We had a great time filming and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

For Loah, The Heart of Saturday Night “is a musical dream come true. Co-presenting with Una was a great pleasure and it was wonderful to hear and chat with all of the amazing musicians throughout the series.

“I am honored to be a part of the show and look forward to sharing our joy with the audience.”

Filmed in the Round Room of Dublin Manor, the show will showcase a wide range of genres from pop, folk, rock, classical and traditional.

There will be performances by Irish Women in Harmony, Mick Flannery, The Saw Doctors, Niamh Regan, Soda Blonde and Rhiannon Giddens.

Writing on her Instagram to announce the news earlier this month, Una said, “We have incredible talent and we can’t wait for you all to watch, tune in from July 24.”

Produced by South Wind Blows, the show promises viewers rousing musical sessions featuring many artists who have not performed on stage since the pandemic began.

RTÉ’s head of entertainment John McHugh said the show will provide a “feast of music for viewers”.

“After what has been a very difficult time for musicians and teams in the Irish music industry, it will be wonderful to see some of Ireland’s greatest performers back on stage,” he said.

“The Heart of Saturday Night” will air on RTÉ One at 9.30pm from July 24.
