Eureka Chamber Music Series returns with four concerts – Times-Standard

The Eureka Chamber Music Series will return in September to launch a four-concert subscription series.

The first concert, September 11 at 7:30 p.m., will feature Trio Duende with ECMS Co-Artistic Director Tom Stone, Avery Fisher Career Award-winning cellist Sophie Shao and Naumburg Award-winning pianist Awadagin Pratt.

The second concert will take place on November 6 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature pianist Vladimir Feltsman, a true keyboard sage who was featured on “60 Minutes” for his emigration to the United States at the height of the Cold War.

Two other concerts will be presented during the winter months: on January 28 at 7:30 p.m., the ECMS will present the Adler Fellows of San Francisco Opera, featuring the greatest opera talents of tomorrow, and on March 26 at 7:30 p.m., the season finale features this year’s Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet.

Season passes available now on the Eureka Chamber Music website (see below). Tickets for all four concerts — all at Calvary Lutheran Church in Eureka — are $150.

Other news

The Eureka Chamber Music Series has named Tom Stone and Maggee VanSpeybroeck as co-artistic directors. The EMCS board also added new members Julie Fulkerson and George Ponnay.

Founded by Pearl and Bob Micheli, ECMS has presented renowned classical musicians at live concerts in Humboldt County since 1993 and is committed to continuing to present a variety of world-class musicians at intimate concerts while expanding its audience and serving the community in innovative ways.

“Eureka is a vibrant community, and I couldn’t be more excited to build on the legacy of ECMS to bring great music to Humboldt County,” Stone said. “Maggee VanSpeybroeck and I have worked closely for several years at the Cypress Performing Arts Association and it is a joy to be reunited to work together on this wonderful series and secure it a bright future.”
