Artsbridge wraps up its summer musical series Thursday | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG – The final concert of the year in the Artsbridge Summer Music Series will be a 90-minute performance sponsored by Artsbridge and the Mid-Ohio Valley Multi-Cultural Festival.

Lady D and MI $$ ION will close the 2021 series from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the bandshell in City Park. Shows are free and lounge chairs are recommended.

MI $$ ION is based in Beckley and is run by Lady D, known as West Virginia’s First Lady of Soul. His repertoire includes R&B, blues, jazz, reggae, pop, dance and many originals written by Lady D and co-author Robert Gray.

Band members are Dan Bailey on guitar, Phil Copney on bass, Demetrius “Meech” Cross on drums and Robert Gray on keyboard.

Lady D founded the group in 2003 and it has become well known in Southern West Virginia. He has performed at many prestigious venues and events such as President Barack Obama’s inaugural inauguration in 2009 for the Obama for Change Inaugural Ball in Washington, DC

He opened for soul legends the O’Jays and played the Greenbrier and numerous festivals across the state.
